Having just recently watched the last UFC ( ultimate fighting championship, and yes I do periodically watch), I was appalled. Not at the fights themselves, but the crowds in attendance. The main event was between the reigning champion, Anderson Silva, and a worthy opponent named Thales Lietes These were two professionals at the top of their game giving their best. While much of the bout entailled strategic posturing and very different game plans, the sad part was the displeasure the crowd showed at not seeing enough blood, or action, or let's call it straight- entertainment. They were not being entertained, and were quick to show it. Not that one person in the crowd would last even thirty seconds against either combatant in the ring, nor have the guts to boo either one face to face. The bottom line is that they don't care about technique, strategy, or game plans, just blood, action, and excitement. At these higher levels of professional combat, from my perspective as someone who has been invloved in martial arts for over 20 years, it is interesting to see that the athletes now reaching the top in this sport are excellent martial artists, not just fighters. Hopefully the powers that be will not succomb to the pressures to only provide matches that are guaranteed to be entertaining, but will also allow the professional combatants to do it their way.

Mindfulness, is in it's most basic form it is the art or act of simply paying attention. Allow yourself to fully pay attention to various activities throughout your day. Without an internal dialogue or judgement about whatever you are paying attention to. Just observe and feel, becoming aware. If you have not practiced before, start with small, simple activities like brushing your teeth or eating. For more advanced practice, incorporate it into interpersonal relationships or challenges through the day. You may discover a whole new perspective on things.

Just recently returned from the WHA winter camp in Denver. As usual, a great time was had by all. In these difficult times it is hard to find the time, funds, etc to attend such an event, however, the reward is well worth it. Not just the privilage to be able to train and learn directly from Master Jung, but to meet old friends and make new ones. I am always pleasantly reminded of what a great group of people make up the WHA. No matter of rank, skill, or whatever, there are no egos or attitudes at all. Everyone is genuinely open and friendly. Willing to share and learn. This reason alone is enough to keep one coming back. On top of that is the exceptional training!! So, for all you members out there who are on the fence, jump off and try to attend this years summer camp and see for yourself.
